REDISA says the Rustenburg depot shown during the Deputy Minister’s visit does not reflect the real state of waste tyre depots around the country. It points instead to Biesiesvlei near Lichtenburg, which caught fire in 2023.
According to REDISA, depots are overcrowded, levies are being diverted, and the small businesses that used to collect tyres have lost their income.
